Jacksonville outlasts BPCC in overtime 84-82

BOSSIER CITY, La. - After blowing a 25-point lead, the Jacksonville College Jaguars used an 8-0 run in overtime to capture an 84-82 win over the Bossier Parish Community College Lady Cavaliers at the Coach Billy Montgomery Gym Wednesday night.

BPCC scored the first four points in overtime to take a 76-72 lead. However, Jacksonville would go on an 8-0 run and turn the four point deficit into a four point lead heading into the final minute of the period. The Jaguars would make their free throws down the stretch and hang on for the 84-82 win. 

Trailing 63-43 after three periods, the Lady Cavaliers outscored the Jaguars 29-9 in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 72 and send it to overtime. Alexandria Pollard missed two free throws which would've given BPCC the lead in the final seconds of regulation. 

Missed free throws, rebounds and turnovers plagued BPCC the entire game. The Lady Cavaliers left 18 possible points at the free throw line, connecting on just 56 percent (23-of-41) free throws in the game. Jacksonville had 26 offensive rebounds, which led to 23 second chance points. BPCC also committed 26 turnovers in the game, three more than its 23 per game average entering the game.

Jacksonville guard Ca'Leyah Burrell led all scorers with 38 points. Na'Kendra Ellis was the only other Jaguar to reach double figures as she had 15 points. Autumn Goram was the leading scorer for the Lady Cavaliers with 19 points, while Rukiah Utley added 16. Gabby Dodson registered her third double-double of the season with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

With the win, Jacksonville improves to 3-11 overall and 2-2 in Region XIV, while the loss drops BPCC to 3-12 and 1-3 in region play. The Lady Cavaliers travel to Lufkin, Texas on Sat., January 11 to take on the defending Region XIV Champion Angelina College Roadrunners. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Shands Gymnasium.
