BPCC outfielder Rebecca Shepherd named LSWA Hitter-of-the-Week

BATON ROUGE, La. – Bossier Parish Community College sophomore outfielder Rebecca Shepherd was named the Hitter- of-the-Week on Tuesday by the Louisiana Sports Writer's Association.

Shepherd, a product of University Academy in Alexandria, La., batted .667 (4-for-6) last weekend, leading BPCC to four straight wins. She scored eight runs while collecting one double, two home runs and five RBI. Shepherd also walked eight times, reaching base an incredible 12 times in her 14 plate appearances. She posted a 1.833 slugging percentage and a .857 on-base percentage over the weekend.

In the Lady Cavaliers' four-game sweep of Baton Rouge Community College and Southern Arkansas Tech last weekend, she was 4-for-6 with one double, two home runs, eight runs scored and five RBI. In BPCC's 8-5 win over BRCC on March 7, Shepherd went 3-for-3 at the plate with three runs scored, a double, two home runs and four RBI.

Shepherd has helped lead BPCC to 12 straight wins and a 19-6 overall record. The Lady Cavaliers begin NJCAA Region XIV play on Wednesday when they play host to the Navarro College Bulldogs. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the BPCC Softball Field.
