Cavaliers take second game of doubleheader 7-3 to manage a split with Pioneers

BEAUMONT, Texas - The Bossier Parish Community College Cavaliers baseball team captured a 7-3 victory over Wharton County Junior College in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader here at Corbett Park. The Cavaliers dropped two of the three games in the season-opening series to the Pioneers.

With the game tied at one in the seventh, BPCC first baseman Elliot Hebert doubled on an 0-2 count to clear the bases and give the Cavaliers a 4-1. BPCC would add another run on Dylan Watts' single. BPCC would add another run in the eighth on Jaden Adams' solo homer, then hold on to claim its first win of the season.

Dylan Hill earned the victory on the pitcher's mound for BPCC. The righty went one and two-thirds innings, allowing two runs, no hits and striking out two. Branon Pope, Beau Ross, and Daniel Shafer all put in work in relief out of the bullpen, steering their team towards the victory.

BPCC starter Justin Lawson, a North Carolina State signee, was oustanding as he allowed just one run and one hit over five innings while walking none and striking out six.

With the win, the Cavaliers are 1-2 on the season and return to action on Feb. 6 when they travel to Hillsboro, Texas for a doubleheader against Hill College.
