Cavs, Lady Cavs have historic winning day

There aren’t many times an athletic department gets to celebrate collectively. However, January 29, 2022 will stand out in the minds of BPCC Athletics forever.  Both men’s and women’s basketball programs pulled off major upsets, softball earned two run rule shutouts and baseball swept their opponent leading to a perfect 6-0…all in one Saturday.  Here’s how it happened:

DATELINE:  BPCC BASEBALL FIELD, BOSSIER CITY, LA  1:00 PM

Cavalier Baseball 19, DFW Post Grad 0 (Game 1)

Cavalier baseball moved to 2-0 with the blowout win over DFW Post Grad.  A 15-run 4th inning was the downfall for DFW as the Cavaliers run-ruled the team from Dallas in 5 innings.  

Clint Young led the Cavs going 3 for 4 including a home run and double and collecting 5 RBIs.  Justin Breen also smashed a home run on his only hit and got 3 RBIs.  Dre Amaral rounded out the home run hitters going 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs.  Catcher Cole Ketzner hit a double in his 3 for 4 games and gained his 2 RBIs.  Alejandro Cazorla went 2 for 4 including a double and 2 RBIs.  Gavin Baird's sole hit was a double for the Cavs. Gabriel Cabrera drove in 2 RBIs.  Connor Crowson was credited with an RBI. 

Zach St. Pierre was given the win with 7 strikeouts.  Jacob Hernandez pitched 1 inning with 3 strikeouts. 

 

DATELINE:  BPCC SOFTBALL FIELD, BOSSIER CITY, LA  1:00 PM

Lady Cavaliers Softball 10, National Park 0 (5 innings) (Game 1)

The Lady Cavaliers (1-0) took care of business in five innings against the Hot Spring, AR-based Nighthawk team.  BPCC jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning.  From there, the runs continued to pile on.   Mallory Pitre was given a shutout win with 5 strike outs in 3 innings of work.  Leona Joshua closed the final two innings out with 2 strikeouts and 1 walk.  

Kennedy Cox smashed a home run and double in her 3 for 3 performance that drove in 3 RBIs.  Kahia Vaifo’ou hit 2 doubles and scored 2 RBIs.  Delani Daughenbaugh hit a double and was given an RBI.  Hailey Pence also pushed in an RBI with her double.  Nicholette Blenker and Precious Aholelei each drove in an RBI with a single.  Dylan Sanay tagged two hits.  

 

 

DATELINE:  BILLY MONTGOMERY GYM, BOSSIER CITY, LA  2:00 PM

Lady Cavalier Basketball 75, Tyler Junior College 71

The BPCC Lady Cavaliers (11-9, 4-6) showed that they were not intimidated by the NJCAA No. 11 and Region XIV conference-leading Tyler Junior College Lady Apaches (18-4, 8-2).  BPCC took the early lead in the first quarter 16-14.  The Lady Apaches cut the lead to one in the second quarter as BPCC held on for a 37-36 halftime lead.  The Lady Cavs tried to push away from Tyler JC in the third period to 59-52.  The Lady Cavs held off a fourth-quarter comeback and held on to secure the 75-71 win.  This was the Lady Cavs' first win over Tyler JC since 2016.  

Former Red River Lady Bulldog, Ma'Kaila Lewis achieved a double-double with 30 points and 11 rebounds.  Aaliyah Stevenson netted four 3-pointers on her way to 17 points.   Faith Robinson stopped the Lady Apaches from many second-chance shots as she pulled down 14 defensive rebounds and 19 rebounds overall.

 

DATELINE:  BPCC SOFTBALL FIELD, BOSSIER CITY, LA 3:00 PM 

Lady Cavalier Softball 13, National Park 0 (5 innings) (Game 2)

The Lady Cavs continued their dominance over the Nighthawks with back-to-back pitching shutouts.  Primrose Aholelei struck out 6 in her three innings of pitching to get the win.  Alohilani Napalapalai finished out with three strikeouts in the final two innings.  The Lady Cavs had four runs each of the first three innings and finished with one run in the fourth inning.   

Kennedy Cox blasted a homer over the right field deck in her 2 for 2 performance and gained 3 RBIs.  Precious Aholelei scored three RBIs and hit a home run.  Hailey Pence took a triple with her sole hit.  Hailey Ladner took a double along with 2 RBIs.  Primrose Aholelei hit for a double.   Kahai Voifo'ou had a 3 for 3 game with 2 RBIs, Nicollette Blenker and Tuli Sosi each had a hit and RBI.  Dyllan Sanay went 2-2 for the game.

 

DATELINE:  BPCC BASEBALL FIELD, BOSSIER CITY, LA 3:00 PM

Cavalier Baseball 11, DFW Post Grad 1

BPCC baseball opened the first two innings 9-0 and looked to have a second shutout for the day.  However, DFW scored their sole run of the game in the third.  The Cavaliers added two more runs for the 11-1 win.

Alejandro Cazorla hit a solo shot out of the park in his 2 for 2 performance with an RBI.  DH Gabriel Cabrera hit two doubles going 2 for 3 and 3 RBIs.  Simon Grinberg added a double and 2 RBIs.  Gavin Baird took a double and an RBI.  Connor Crowson had a hit with 2 RBIs.  Dre Amaral had a 2 for 3 day with an RBI.  Collin Young added an RBI with a hit.  Luke Bogan and Kameron Edwards each grabbed a hit for the Cavs.

Caden Griffin picked up the win with 3 strikeouts and a walk for 1 earned run.  Thomas Walsh pitched an inning with a walk.  Sean Goodwin closed them out adding a strikeout. 


DATELINE: 
 KILGORE COLLEGE, KILGORE, TX  4:00 PM 

BPCC Cavalier Basketball 109, Kilgore College 101 

The Cavalier men’s basketball team was on the road to face No. 2 ranked Kilgore College.  BPCC took the early 42-39 lead going into halftime.  The Rangers came back in the second half to tie the score at 87-87, sending the game into overtime.  It was the Cavaliers, though, who outscored Kilgore to claim the 109-101 overtime win.  

Jaeden Marshall was the top scorer with 28 points and 6 rebounds.  Derrick Hamilton netted 16 points and 7 rebounds.  Adrian Walker nailed 15 points.  Kendrick Delahoussaye bucketed 13 points and 5 assists.  Eric McKnight scored 13.  Jeremy Richard helped with 6 assists.
