Cavaliers Build Momentum Ahead of Conference Opener

BOSSIER CITY – The BPCC Cavaliers men's basketball team (6-2) closed out Thanksgiving week with back-to-back wins in the Decari Markray Classic, setting the stage for the start of Region XIV play this week. With strong performances in both matchups, the Cavaliers enter conference action on a two-game winning streak and growing momentum.

BPCC opened the classic on Nov. 24 with a decisive 81-68 win over Baton Rouge Community College, led by standout guard Tony Montgomery, who delivered a dominant stat line of 26 points, 8 assists, 6 rebounds, and 4 steals. Zequan Lewis posted a double-double with 10 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 steals, while Drew Cooper added 16 points and shot 4-for-8 from beyond the arc. Mazin Lumori contributed 11 points, and the Cavaliers collectively shot an impressive 44% from the three-point line.

BPCC followed up the next day with another strong showing, defeating Tribulation Prep 77-59 on Nov. 25. The Cavaliers emphasized teamwork, finishing the game with 18 assists to only 8 turnovers. Drew Cooper led the offensive effort with 21 points, knocking down five three-pointers and grabbing 8 rebounds. Zequan Lewis again delivered, adding 18 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 assists. Yoav Botzer provided a defensive spark with 5 assists and 3 steals, while Tony Montgomery tallied 12 points, 4 assists, and 6 rebounds. Dustin Welch rounded out the scoring with 11 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 steals.

Head Coach Jeff Moore says the team is embracing the challenge ahead as conference play begins.
“Our players and staff are looking forward to Region 14 play starting on December 3 at Paris Junior College. Paris has always played really well at home for many years. Region 14 is widely considered one of the premier junior college conferences in the nation — the SEC of JUCO basketball — and our non-conference schedule has pushed this young team to grow, compete, and prepare for the battles ahead. We’re ready to take the next step.”

The Cavaliers now shift focus to a tough December stretch with four Region XIV games on deck. BPCC opens on the road Dec. 3 at Paris JC, then heads to Panola College on Dec. 9. The Cavs return home to host Navarro College on Dec. 6 and Angelina College on Dec. 13. With momentum behind them and conference play ahead, BPCC is ready to compete and set the tone in one of the nation’s strongest JUCO conferences.
