Amanda Nordberg, Head Coach and newly appointed Assistant to the Athletic Director, enters her seventh year at the helm of the NJCAA DI nationally ranked Lady Cavalier Softball Program.  The Lady Cavs completed the 2021 spring season 46-8 including an impressive 23-1 Region XIV East Conference finish.  The 46 wins set the single season win record in program history for the third time under Nordberg and is the fourth 40 plus win season since 2017.  The Cavaliers saw their final loss of the season in the championship game of the Region XIV Regional Tournament against National Tournament participant, Trinity Valley Community College.

         The 2021 NJCAA DI Region XIV East Conference Champion team was awarded with 11 Region XIV East All Conference selections, 8 Region XIV All Region Selections, Conference Pitcher of the Year, both Co-Conference Players of the Year, Region XIV Player of the Year, and Region XIV 'Coaching Staff of the Year'.  Three Lady Cavaliers in Uchenna Jong Loy, Dyllan Sanay and Tuli Sosi were recognized as National Fastpitch Coach's Association (NFCA) NJCAA DI All Americans. 

         In the fall of 2021, Nordberg was inducted into the University of Arkansas at Monticello Athletics Hall of Fame for her contribution to the 2010 GSC West Champion & NCAA Super Regional Finalist Cotton Blossom Team.  Amanda was also recognized as the Bossier Parish Community College Award Receipent for the LCTCS Outstanding Staff Memeber honor for 2021.  

         In a Covid-shortened 2020 season, the Lady Cavaliers went 20-7 and were on track to have another successful run.  Sophomore shortstop Ruby Butler signed a scholarship to play for the NCAA DI University of Maryland Terapins while Sophomore outfielder Rebecca Shepherd signed to play for the NCAA DII Southern Arkansas University Muleriders.

         In 2019, her fourth season at the helm of the softball program, Nordberg’s team finished with a 42-19 record. The Lady Cavaliers posted a 16-13 record and finished third in the East Zone of Region XIV behind NJCAA DI National Tournament participants Tyler Junior College and Angelina College. BPCC advanced to the Region XIV Tournament for the third consecutive season.

         Butler and freshman Rebecca Shepherd were First-Team All-Region and All-Conference selections, while five other Lady Cavaliers were chosen Second-Team All-Conference.

In 2018, the Lady Cavaliers set the single season win record in the program’s 23-year history by posting a 44-13 record. It was the second straight year the Lady Cavaliers set a new win total, besting the record of 42 wins set in 2017. It was also the first time in school history to have back-to-back 40-plus win seasons.

          With an impressive 22-6 record in Region 14’s East Division, Bossier Parish and Tyler Junior College tied for the Regular Season Conference Championship. After a heart-breaking 9-7 loss to the Apaches in the semifinals of the Region XIV Tournament, the Lady Cavaliers fell one game shy of reaching the NJCAA DI National Tournament.

         After the record-breaking 2018 season, which included winning her 100th game as a head coach, Nordberg and assistant coach Curt Williams were recognized by their peers as the Region XIV 'Coaching Staff of the Year.”'        

         Infielder Chelsea Fagan, who led the NJCAA in home runs with 38, was named a First-Team All-American by the NJCAA as well as the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA). Fagan was also the Region XIV Player-of-the-Year, and shared Conference Player-of-the-Year honors with teammate Elisa Favela. Favela, was a Third-Team All-American as a designated player after leading the team with a .478 batting average and a 17-7 record in the circle. In total, eight Lady Cavaliers garnered All-Region or Conference honors.

         Under Nordberg tutelage, the 2019 Lady Cavaliers set or tied a number of offensive records, which had been set by the 2018 team. Those include:  singles (419), triples (13), home runs (77) and walks (212).

        During the 2017-18 school year, BPCC softball’s 3.22 cumulative team grade point average was ranked No. 31 by the NFCA among all two-year colleges in the nation, which includes NJCAA DI, DII, DIII as well California Junior Colleges, for the 2017-2018 academic year. Bossier Parish was ranked 14th among NJCAA Division I Junior Colleges. The Lady Cavaliers also had eight softball players earn NFCA Academic All-America honors for earning a 3.6 grade point average or higher.

        Prior to returning to BPCC in 2013, Nordberg spent two seasons as the head softball coach at Centenary College of Louisiana where she aided the program in improving in almost every offensive statistical category including batting average, stolen bases, hits and home runs. In her second season, Centenary freshman Anna Dunn was recognized as Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Newcomer of the Year and First-Team All-SCAC; Morgan Daigle received All-SCAC Second Team honors. Three players - Michelle Tasin, Lizzie Moran and BPCC alum Emily Sexton, were SCAC Honorable Mentions.

        A native of San Antonio, Nordberg was a four-time National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-America Scholar as she graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Arkansas at Monticello with her bachelor’s degree in business administration. She received the Business Administration Student of the Year award as a junior.

        As a sophomore, Nordberg helped the Cotton Blossoms to a program best 55-13 record, a Gulf South Conference Championship, a NCAA Division II Regional Championship and a NCAA Division II Super Regional finalist.  She received All-GSC honors, as well as GSC Softball Pitcher of the Week the same year after going 19-3 and unblemished in conference play in the circle. That same season, the Blossoms were recognized as having the highest team grade point average in the nation among four year universities. She holds top ten career pitching records at UAM in wins, appearances, games started, innings pitched and strikeouts. She completed her career with a 31-8 record averaging six strikeouts per seven innings pitched.

        Nordberg went on to play her final year at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff where she assisted the team to a Southwestern Athletic Conference Tournament appearance. She also served as a graduate assistant the following fall, assisting primarily with the pitching staff.  She received her masters of arts in addiction studies from UAPB graduating Suma Cum Laude with a 4.0 GPA.
