BPCC shuts out Navarro 9-0 in five innings

BOSSIER CITY, LA - The Bossier Parish Community College Lady Cavaliers scored two runs in each of the first three innings then added three more in the fourth to capture a 9-0 win over Navarro College in five innings of game one of Wednesday's Region XIV opener at the BPCC Softball Field.

BPCC's Mabry Smith allowed just two hits and one walk while striking out 10 to earn the win.

Rebecca Shepherd, who was named the Louisiana Sports Writer's Association Hitter-of-the-Week on Tuesday, continued to swing a hot bat for the Lady Cavaliers. Shepherd went 2-for-2 with a home run, a double, two RBIs, two runs scored and had two walks. It was her home run in the bottom of the first which put BPCC up 1-0. Shortstop Ruby Butler, a University of Maryland commit, also had a good day at the plate as she went 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Outfielder Haily Ebey hit a leadoff home run in the fourth to put the Lady Cavaliers up 7-0. BPCC would go on to add two more runs in the inning. After giving up a leadoff single in the fifth, Smith retired the next three Bulldogs in a row to seal the win.

With the win, their 13th straight, the Lady Cavaliers improved to 20-6 on the season and 1-0 in Region XIV play. The loss drops Navarro to 10-11 overall and 0-1 in region play.
