Freshman first baseman Ally Klein garners a pair of accolades

BOSSIER CITY - Bossier Parish Community College freshman Ally Klein garnered a pair of accolades for her outstanding performances at the plate last week. On Monday, Klein was named the NJCAA Region XIV East Player-the-Week, which qualifies her for national honors, and Tuesday she was honored by the Louisiana Sports Writer's Association as the Hitter-of-the-Week.

Klein earned the honors by going 9-for-21 (.429) last week for the Lady Cavaliers. She belted five home runs to help the BPCC to four wins in six games. Of her nine hits, six were extra base hits, including five home runs and a double. She hit two home runs in each game of a doubleheader, then added her fifth homer of the week in the next game. Klein scored six runs and had nine RBIs.

A first baseman from Eunice, La., Klein has played in 44 games and is batting .356. The Iota High School product, leads the team in home runs with 13, and is the first-ever Lady Cavalier to be honored by the LSWA. Klein is the third BPCC softball player to be named the Region XIV East Player-of-the-Week. She follows teammates Abi Cole and Haily Ebey in receiving the recognition.
