Rebecca Shepherd named NJCAA Region XIV Player-of-the-Week

BOSSIER CITY - Freshman outfielder Rebecca Shepherd was named the NJCAA Region XIV Player-of-the-Week for the week of March 10-17 today by a vote of the coaches in the region.

Shepherd went 11-for-17 (.647) in in the six games she played in this past week. Of her 11 hits, four were home runs. She scored nine runs and had 10 RBIs. On the season, Shepherd has played in 21 games and leads the team in batting average (.556), hits (40), home runs (7) and is second in RBIs (29).

The freshman from University Academy in Alexandria, La., has helped lead the Lady Cavaliers 20-3 record and a No. 19 ranking in NJCAA Division I poll. Unfortunately, Shepherd missed this weekend's games due to a death in the family. The Lady Cavaliers struggled without her bat in the lineup, going just 1-3 in her absence, including losing two one-run games.

Shepherd is the second Lady Cavalier to recieve the honor this season as teammate Abi Cole was honored earlier in the month.
