Lady Cavaliers go undefeated in Coastal Bend Tournament on opening weekend

BEEVILLE, Texas - The Bossier Parish Community College softball team won three games over the weekend here in a tournament hosted by Coastal Bend College. The Lady Cavaliers 3-0 start on opening weekend included two run-rule wins in their first two games of the tournament. BPCC was scheduled to play five games over the weekend but incliment weather caused the cancellation of two games.

The Lady Cavaliers started the season off with an 11-3 win in six innings over the host Coastal Bend Cougars. Sophomore pitcher Kat Roth scattered four hits and allowed three unearned runs over four innings, while striking out five to earn her first victory of the year. Ruby Butler and Rebecca Shepherd both hit two-run home runs, while Ryan DiBasilio had two hits and drove in three runs to pace BPCC's offensive attack.

In game two, the BPCC used the long ball to crush El Paso Community College 11-2 in five innings. Hailey Pence hit a two-run home run, while Rebecca Shepherd and Emily Hardy both had three-run homers to lead the BPCC hit barrage. The Lady Cavaliers got solid pitching peformances by Jenna James and Leann Franks.

BPCC was schedule to play two additional game but those were rained out. However, the Lady Cavaliers were able to get one final game in, completing the perfect weekend with a 3-1 victory over Region XIV rival Lamar State College - Port Arthur. 

The Lady Cavaliers don't play again until Feb. 5, 2019 when they travel to LSC - Port Arthur to take on the Seahawks.
