BPCC Cavaliers earn hard-fought 73-68 win over Coastal Bend Cougars

BOSSIER CITY, La. - The Bossier Parish Community College Cavaliers made 23 of its 27 free throws, including six in the final minute, to beat the Coastal Bend College Cougars 73-68 at the Coach Billy Montgomery Gym Wednesday night.

BPCC guards E.J. Clark and Aaron Gregg went 6-for-6 from the free throw line in the final 30 seconds of the game to seal the victory for the Cavaliers. Clark's floater in the lane gave BPCC a 67-65 lead with 56 seconds left in the game. After CBC's Emmauel White missed a three-pointer, which would've given the Cougars the lead, they were forced to foul. Gregg, who was 6-for-6 from the line, made both of his free throws to give the Cavs a 69-65 lead. Following a pair of missed three's, the Cougars would foul Clark, sending the 87 percent free-throw shooter to the line. Clark, who finished the game with 17 points, would sink all four of his free throw attempts in the waning seconds to put the game away.

BPCC's Diamante Brown continued his outstanding play as he led all scorers with 20 points. Brown, who has scored 20 or more points in five of his last seven games, narrowly missed out on registering a double-double as he pulled down nine rebounds in the game. Clark was the only other Cavalier to reach double figures. White and Lance-Amir Paul were the only Cougars to reach double figures with 19 and 15 points, respectively.

With the win, BPCC improves to 10-5 overall and 4-2 in Region XIV, while the loss drops CBC to 6-9 overall and 0-5 in region play. The Cavaliers return to action on Sat., January 11 when they travel to Jacksonville College to take on the Jaguars who are 9-6 overall and 2-4 in the region. Tip-off is schedule for 4 p.m. at Jacksonville's John Alexander Gym.
