BOSSIER CITY - Bossier Parish's Will Doughty scored from third on a wild pitch in the bottom of the ninth to give the Cavaliers a 6-5 walk-off win over the Paris Junior College Dragons Thursday at the BPCC Baseball Field.
Doughty, a freshman from Crowley, La., reached on an error by Paris shortstop Ashton Albert to start the bottom of the ninth. Ty Dragos sacrificed Doughty to second, then he reached third on Layne McLin's ground out. With a 1-1 count on Kanin Dodge, PJC reliever Jack Englemann uncorked a wild pitch that got past Dragons catcher Ian Groves and allowed Doughty to cross the plate with the winning run.
The Cavaliers took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Kyle Jones singled, went to second on a wild pitch, then stole third and scored on a throwing error by Groves. Paris would tie the game in the third on Nick DeNicola's opposite field home run.
BPCC would grab a 4-1 lead in the fifth after scoring three runs on four hits in the inning. After the teams traded runs in the sixth, Paris would cut the lead to 5-4 in the seventh on Tristan Kalina's base hit and Kyle Boudreaux's sacrifice fly. The Dragons would tie the game in the eighth when BPCC shortstop Bobby Lada misplayed Wilson Roubion's grounder, which allowed Trevor Rugg to score and tie the game at five.
BPCC pitcher Zane Morehouse earned the win in relief for the Cavaliers. Morehouse entered the game in the seventh, pitched three innings allowed two hits and one run while striking out three and walking none. Morehouse was the third pitcher used by the Cavaliers. Starter Dylan Collins gave up three hits and two runs, while walking one and striking out 10.
With the win, BPCC improves to 27-16 overall and 12-13 in Region XIV, while the loss drops the Dragons to 22-26 overall and 7-19 in region play. The two teams will resume the three-game series on Saturday at Paris' "Hub" Hollis Field.
