BPCC defeats Angelina 11-1 in six inning to split doubleheader

BOSSIER CITY - Bossier Parish scored six runs in the first inning then cruised to an 11-1 run-rule win over Angelina College in six innings in the second game of Monday's doubleheader at the BPCC Baseball Field. .

The first seven Cavalier batters had base hits to begin the bottom of the first inning. BPCC sent 10 batters to the plate in the inning and scored six runs. The Cavaliers started the scoring when freshman Zachary Lee doubled home Kanin Dodge and Kyle Jones. Two batters later, freshman Will Doughty delivered the big blow of the inning when he cleared the bases on a double that reached the right-center field wall.

Leading 9-1 in the bottom of the sixth, Dodge and Jones again led off with back-to-back singles. Lee picked up his third RBI of the game when he singled home Dodge. Hudson LaBorde's single through the right side plated Jones with the Cavaliers 11th run, and ending the game on the run-rule. LaBorder, a sophomore transfer from Lafayette, La., went 3-for-4 in the second game with a double and three RBIs. Jones, a sophomore from Shreveport's Calvary Baptist Academy, also went 3-for-4 and scored three runs, including the game winner.  

Casey Todd, a sophomore from Longwood, Fla., came on in the fifth in relief of starter Jose Cabrera, Jr., and tossed two scoreless to pick up the win. He allowed two hits and a walk while striking out three.

With the doubleheader split, BPCC is now 25-14 overall and 11-1 in Region XIV play. The Cavaliers are currently in third place in the Eastern Division, a game ahead of Angelina, which is 23-16 overall and 10-11 in region play.

The Cavaliers return to region play on Friday, Apr. 19, when the Cavaliers play host to the Navarro College Bulldogs in a three-game series at the BPCC Baseball Field.
