BPCC scores three runs in the fourth inning to take a 4-3 lead then hangs on for a 7-4 win and series sweep of Northeast Texas

PARIS, Texas - Bossier Parish Community College scored three runs in the top of the fourth inning to take a 4-3 lead then hung on to capture a 7-4 win and series sweep of Northeast Texas Community College here Sunday at Chisum High School's baseball field. 

Trailing 3-1 in the top of the fourth inning, BPCC scored three runs on three hits to take a 4-3 lead. Adrian Minjares led off the frame with a walk then Hudson LaBorde followed with a single. Zachary Lee's double to left plated both Minjares and LaBorde to tie the game at three. A single by Will Doughty and a sacrifice fly from Bobby Lada scored Minjares to give the Cavaliers a 4-3 lead.

Kyle Jones' single in the fifth plated Kanin Dodge, who led off the inning with a triple. BPCC would add to its lead with single runs in the sixth and eighth innings.

Doughty, a freshman from Crowley, La., went 4-for-4 at the plate with a home run and two runs scored to lead the BPCC offensive attack, which racked up 11 hits in the game.

Jose Cabrera Jr. earned the win for the Cavaliers. He surrendered three runs on six hits over five innings, striking out nine. Zane Morehouse and Hunter Shaw entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief. Shaw recorded the last three outs to earn the save for BPCC. Tyler Navarro took the loss for Northeast Texas Community College. He went six innings, allowing six runs on eight hits and striking out five.

The win gave the Cavaliers the series sweep of the Eagles, marking the second time this season that has happened. BPCC improved to 22-13 overall and more importantly 9-10 in Region XIV play. The loss drops Northeast Texas to 11-26 overall and 5-13 in region play.

BPCC returns to action on Monday, Apr. 8 when the Cavaliers take on Centenary College's Junior Varsity at Shehee Stadium in Shreveport. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
