BPCC defeats Panola 5-3 in game two of doubleheader

SHREVEPORT, La. - Kyle Jones' two-out, RBI double in the top of the seventh helped lead Bossier Parish to a 5-3 win over Panola College in game two of Sunday's doubleheader at Centenary College's Shehee Stadium. On Jones' double, the Ponies would commit two errors, which allowed him to score the Cavaliers fifth run.

Mills, who got the start at first base, went 3-for-3 with two doubles and a home run to lead the Cavaliers offensive attack. A freshman from Plano, Texas, Mills doubled and scored the game's first run in the third, then belted a two-run home run in the fifth to give BPCC a 3-0 lead. Panola scored a run in the sixth, then added two more in the top of the seventh to tie the game at three. With one out in the bottom of the seventh, Mills delivered his second double of the game and came around to score on Jones' double.

Jose Cabrera, Jr., earned the vicotry for BPCC as he allowed three hits and three runs over six and a third innings, while striking out five. Hunter Shaw and Branon Pope entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief. Shaw recorded the last six outs to earn the save for the Cavaliers.

Trey Lindsay took the loss for Panola. He went six and two-thirds innings, allowing four runs on eight hits, striking out four and walking zero.

With the win, Bossier Parish improves to 19-12 overall and 6-10 in Region XIV play. Despite losing game three, Panola captured the series by winning two of the three games. The Ponies record is now 26-7 overall and 11-4 in region play.

BPCC retuns to to the diamond on Wednesday, Apr. 3, when the Cavaliers travel to LSU-Alexandria to take on the General Junior Varsity. BPCC begins a three-game Region XIV series with Northeast Texas Community College on Thursday, Apr. 4. First pitch for game one of the series is scheduled for 3 p.m. at the BPCC Baseball Field.
