BOSSIER CITY - Bossier Parish Community College designated hitter Adrian Minjares went 4-for-4 with a home run and two doubles to lead the Cavaliers to a 6-2 win and series sweep of the Northeast Texas Community College Eagles Saturday at the BPCC Baseball Field.

Minjares, a freshman from Coppell, Texas, hit a two-run home run over the left-center field wall to give the Cavaliers a 5-1 lead in the bottom of the third inning. After first baseman Hudson LaBorde drew a two-out walk, Minjares blasted a Jackson Rutledge fastball over the fence in one of the deepest parts of the field. The Minjares homer, his first of the season, came on a full count.

NTCC took a 1-0 lead in the first when the first three Eagles singled to start the game. After leadoff batter Bryce Crow was thrown out by BPCC center fielder Kyle Jones at third base on Cody Cleveland's single, Andrew Skivington singled Cleveland home with the Eagles' first run of the day. Skivington would pick his second RBI of the game in the sixth when his groundout plated Crow, who had reached on a hit-by-pitch in the top of the sixth.

The Cavaliers would take the lead in the bottom of the second on Jones' two-out, two-RBI single, which scored Minjares and catcher Ty Dragos. BPCC would add an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth when Dragos singled home Minjares, who had doubled. 

BPCC freshman starter Branon Pope allowed two earned runs on six hits through five innings, while walking none and striking out three to earn his first win of the season. Former Benton High standout Rutledge, who battled a problem on the middle finger of his pitching hand, was touched for five runs on six hits, walked two and struck out two, absorbed the loss for the Eagles. Rutledge falls to 0-2 on the season.

With the win and series sweep BPCC improves its overall record 13-1 and 3-0 in Region XIV play. The loss drops NTCC's record to 4-14 overall and 0-3 in region play.
